Pot, weed, grass, herb, joint, buds, dope, blunt, reefer, Mary Jane, Ganga, skunk, stinkweed, Texas Tea...the list of street names for marijuana/cannabis goes on. In this issue we visit the implications of medical marijuana in our state — when it provides comfort to people with insufferable pain and nausea, and when it dulls the mind, fosters panic, or gives birth to personal demons. We also discuss the evolution of policies after SQ 788 was passed in OK, followed by SB 162 (AKA The Unity Bill). We are now one of 33 states and D.C. legalizing medical marijuana, despite it being classified as a Schedule I Drug. (Eleven states and D.C. have legalized recreational marijuana for adults over age 21.) We invite you to visit Dr. Larry Bookman's President's Page for a fascinating history of marijuana use over several millennia.
