In 1980 when I started my practice in Oklahoma City, it was considered prestigious to belong to Oklahoma State Medical Association, the Oklahoma County Medical Society and the AMA. Unfortunately, organized medicine may not enjoy the same status and prestige as it did in the past. However in the current political and economic climate it is more important then ever for doctors to belong to organized medicine and remain united. That is the only way for us to leverage our collective strength to provide the best healthcare to our patients, maintain healthy physician patient relationships, protect the integrity of our medical practice and preserve the economic viability of our practices.
