Factors affecting farmers' adoption of technologies in farming systems: a case study in O Mon District, Can Tho Province, Mekong Delta.

摘要

The changes in the farmers' use of technologies are influenced by technical trainings, meetings, oral transmission, trust in technicians and level of belief in the technology itself. Men usually use technologies for rice, fruit and fish production, and women use technologies for pig and chicken production. One factor that triggered the adoption of new technologies include progressive, young and educated male farmers. Factors limiting the adoption of technology included conservative old men, and their weak belief in high yielding-capabilities of new technologies. If the farmers had a positive perception of technology, they again faced problems in technology application due to lack of capital, lack of direction and support from the government and agricultural extension agencies, and lack of insurance compensation policy to ensure yield.
