The Heat Pump & Thermal Storage Technology Center of Japan (HPTCJ) has been promoting the use of heat pumps and thermal storage systems which are technologies that utilize renewable energy sources. By analyzing the future image of heat pumps, HPTCJ has estimated that the reduction in consumption of primary energy and emissions of greenhouse gas (GHG) that would be achieved by the expanded use of heat pumps. To put it concretely, if boilers, which are used to meet heating demand from the private sector, namely households and the commercial sector, and the industrial sector, are replaced by heat pump type equipment, the reduction in primary energy consumption and emissions of GHG when compared with that in the fiscal year 2015 (end March 2016) are estimated as follows.
