The last time we saw a GSi badge gracing a Vauxhall was in the middle of the last decade, symbolising the pinnacle of sportiness for the brand. There were Corsas, Astras, Vectras and Zafiras, as well as the earlier Cavaliers and Carltons. A change in marketing direction saw the introduction of the VXR brand to take over where GSi left off, but it's all change again, with the VXR moniker snoozed until a hardcore, driver focussed model is ready for launch. So GSi is back in fashion again, this time as a sophisticated sporting flagship that is positioned between the cooking versions and a future VXR. And for the first time ever in GSi history, there's a diesel version, too, powered by a 207bhp twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre unit.
