Here we go head-to-head with a pair of arch-rivals, the Ford Tourneo Connect and the brand new Vauxhall Combo Life. If a multitude of seats and an elevated ride height suit your motoring needs, the answer could be an SUV or an MPV. But if you rate practicality and value above style and image, it could well be worth considering one of the more rugged breed of van-based MPVs. They seek to muscle in on family motoring territory occupied by car-chassis-based models such as the Citroen C4 Picasso, Renault Scenic and Volkswagen Golf SV. So our Twin Test heroes this month go up against some of their same-brand stablemates as well as some significant rival brands. Here we see how the Ford Tourneo Connect and Vauxhall Combo Life shape up to one another. Both have the option of seven-seat versatility packaged in vanshaped silhouettes, but here we test them in five-seat family guise. Cynics might deride them as not much more than vans with extra windows, but as we'll find out, there is much more to them than that.
