PAUL composed this beautiful botanical study using the rule of thirds, and while this doesn't need to be applied to every shot, it has definitely worked here. The focus point on the left vertical thirds line provides a balance that would be lost if the subject were centred. This is enough to elevate the image from a snap into a considered close-up.
