The role of apicultural and horticultural co-operatives in Poland's rural areas is marginal at present. Problems encountered by such co-operatives are largely attributable to the lack of economic stability, uncertain situation prevailing on eastern markets, the absence of inexpensive sources of credit, high taxes paid in connection with fixed assets owned by co-operatives, the liquidation of the organisational superstructure and the absence of substitute structures that would support restructuring processes. In the conditions of the market economy the specific character of the production of fruit and vegetables compels the growers to integrate in their activities. The state's support is needed, however, in the form of relevant regulations relatingto the establishment and consolidation of the organisations of producers, co-operative producers included.
