What does survey reveal about post-coronavirus business prospects?

Almost half (49 per cent) of respondents to a Horticulture Week coronavirus business impact survey say they will take a hit but stay in business. Only 11.6 per cent say they are okay and will get through, while nine per cent expect to close. Two-fifths of respondents are from the ornamental grower sector and a fifth from garden retail.One grower says: "Without a scrappage scheme or sensible loan then there is a good chance we won't be here next year." Another comments: "Ornamentals sector crippled. No route to market." Another says: "Duration of restrictions is critical. If it is possible to reopen garden retail by mid or late May, then the situation will be less disastrous. If it goes on to June or July, then I foresee mass bankruptcies."
