摘要

Berry Gardens chief executive Nick Allen says demand is now "relatively back to normal" after a "challenging period" at the start of the coronavirus lockdown. At the beginning of the crisis, demand in Europe was 30 per cent down and production aimed at northern Europe was sent to the UK, reducing demand for UK product. But Allen says: "In general, things are back on track. The big difference is shopper behaviour. It was staples like long-term fruit and veg during the panic-buying period, when people were making lots of small trips to the supermarkets. Now it's one bigshop for the week and not necessarily on Saturday or Sunday, which is a big shift."For us, that means trying to adapt to that new behaviour with bigger packs and encouraging buying two packs rather than one, as well as focusing on the health message of berries. People have been buying more citrus and forget about the high vitamin content of berries."
