Our esteemed editor has shed light on oxalis that are out and out weeds—and there are plenty. No one knows for sure how many species are in the genus but estimates go as high as one thousand. Here's what I had to say in The New House-plant, published 1993 (Macmillan):Oxalis is a highly variable genus that runs the gamut from weedy to wonderful. I pull up more oxalis than I grow, but there are certain species that are first-rate houseplants. Oxalis regnellii, for example, from South America, is nearly ever-blooming, with white flowers set among or slightly above square-cut leaflets of dark bronze green, flushed maroon beneath. Moreover, it will adapt and continue to bloom in surprisingly low light.
