Development of an efficient technical product for accessing water in refugees' camps

The aim of this paper is to identify an essential need for refugees or disasters survivors and develop a product to satisfy it. Providing adequate amounts of water is a major challenge in refugees' camps. Even though it is significant to provide sufficient amounts of water, sanitation is also important due to contamination risks of water in such areas of poor living conditions during transferring between vessels, storing, or touching with hands, which are correlated with spreading infectious diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera. An economical technical project is proposed to provide sufficient water for a long period of time and avoid the serious health issues in refugee camps. It includes building cabins with a variety of facilities (toilet, bath and a partition for other daily requirements such as washing dishes and clothes) by affordable steel moulds and providing a continuous hygienic water source via installing artesian wells, water treatment systems and water tanks. Moreover, the project prevents water and environmental pollution using septic tanks as a practical discharge option in such areas. The project is feasible, cost-effective (£2736) and offers all necessary services (a continuous water source (Artesian well), RO (Reverse Osmosis) water purifying system, water tank and drainage connection (septic tank)). This is compared to the competitors' products in the market (£2800 and much more) that do not offer all necessary requirements of sanitary cabins in such areas.
