The art of noise for safety managers

If you think that noise control in your workplace is a text-book example of good practice, based on Exposure Action Values (EAVs), hearing protection and training, you are probably in a similar situation to the Royal Opera House (ROH) health and safety team on the day of a fateful Wagner rehearsal in September 2012. Last month, the Court of Appeal ruled that the ROH had failed to go "as far as reasonably practicable" to prevent hearing damage to members of its orchestra in general, and viola player Chris Goldschei-der in particular, whose musical career was ended that day.
