Developed by the HSE as part of its testing and monitoring services, GRIP is a voluntary scheme that aims to provide information on the slip resistance performance of footwear, in the form of a one to five star rating system. The slip resistance of outsoles is measured under challenging and life-like conditions using test methodology designed to replicate walking dynamics and pedestrian friction requirements (see box, right).
