The hand grips (3) consists of straps suspended from a tubular rail fixed to the vehicle. The hand grips serve to give standing passengers support in public service vehicles. To prevent the hand grip from sliding along the rail in the event of an emergency stop, a recess (2) is formed on the upper surface of the bearer rail (4). The recess breadth corresponds to the width of the hand grip (3) allowing a slight pay. The recess is 'U's shaped and deeper than the tube material thickness. The recess outer edges are chamfered to permit the hand grip strap to bend sharply. Equally spaced slots could be provided in the opposite facing tube surfaces.
