At the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), we're committed to taking immediate action to improve fire safety in residential buildings, as urged by the government and Dame Judith Hackitt. As a profession, we talked about raising standards 20 years ago, then again after the inquest into the Lakanal House fire in 2015, but essentially nothing has changed. To improve fire safety in new residential builds and refurbishments, we need to revisit the building regulations, which are too vague and open to interpretation.
