Dispute settlement activity in 2015

The WTO's dispute settlement system experienced its busiest year so far, with an average of 30 active panels per month. During 2015, the WTO received its 500~(th) trade dispute for settlement. Over the year, the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) received 13 requests for consultations, the first step in the disputes process, more than half of them from developing countries (see Figure 1). It also established 15 new panels to adjudicate 17 new matters. As of 31 December 2015, there were 26 active disputes before the Appellate Body, panels or in arbitration.
