A. Primary treatment involves the physical separation of insoluble solids from floatable materials contained in the wastewater. An example of this is primary sludge, which in this process the primary sludge is transferred to a solids-processing system, where the solids are concentrated and pumped to the solids-handling facilities. For the pumping of the primary sludge pumps such as horizontal and vertical solids-handling rotodynamic, submersible solids-handling rotodynamic, piston, progressive cavity and rotary lobe may be used.
