A: In dewatering applications self-priming pumps are typically used. Self-priming pumps are designed to have the following abilities: to prime themselves automatically after being initially filled, when operating under a suction lift; to free themselves of entrained gas without losing their prime; and to continue normal pumping without attention. Dewatering operations require the use of pumps - typically rotodynamic pumps.
