Davide Marchesi, Tesi SpA, Italy, describes a new fusion bonded epoxy system for coating external field joints. FBE is the new automatic fusion bonded epoxy system for external field joint coating designed by Tesi Group's technical department and developed by Tesi SpA. The system is composed by a dual tank fluid bed that contain the coating powders and a motorised powder ring. The two main components are connected by hoses and cables and controlled by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The fundamentals on which the design of this system was based are: 'simplicity, reliability and repeatability'.
