The market remains optimistic in the Middle East with continuous demand on the horizon, both for contract renewals and new contracts. National oil companies in the region, particularly Qatar Petroleum and ADNOC, are expected to create a 20% increase in contracted demand in the next two years. The region has the greatest backlog globally and is one of the few regions with the demand to absorb more stranded units from China. Already 15 newbuilds from China have been contracted in the Middle East since 2018, and more are expected in the next few months. Day rates are also improving to average USD 70,000-90,000 for rigs in the categories above JU 300 IC.
