Colombia could face gas shortages in five years,forcing it to lean more heavily on LNG imports,after years of lackluster investment and exploration have left supply failing to keep up with demand,while crisis in neighboring Venezuela saps hopes of resuming supplies of cheap piped gas(WGI Jul.u'l8).A handful of small-scale pilot fracking projects expected to kick off this year might yield substantial reserves,but the government has yet to sanction widespread commercial application,and use of the technology would probably come too late to avert the shortages in any case.
