UNITED KINGDOM:Requirement to Close Premises and Businesses During the Coronavirus Emergency

On March 21st 2020 the UK government introduced legislation laying down requirements to close premises and businesses during the emergency. These Regulations require the closure of businesses selling food or drink for consumption on the premises, andbusinesses listed in the Schedule, to protect against the risks to public health arising from coronavirus. The closure lasts until a direction is given by the Secretary of State. Other businesses which attract public visitors also have to close, e.g. auctioneers, hairdressers, night clubs, museums etc. where there are no exceptions. The Secretary of State is required to keep the need for these restrictions under review every 28 days.
