Peru has a marginal petrochemicals industry that has. so far. failed to take advantage of the country's gas resources, which could support a world-scale, export-oriented complex with the ability to compete with other plants in South America. Even if Peru were able to overcome its constraints, the start-up of any petrochemicals facility is unlikely before 2023. which further delays Peru's aim to secure a significant share of South America's polyethylene (PE) market.
