ZF starts production of new automated truck and coach transmissions

Brazil - ZF do Brasil, based in the city of Sorocaba, Sao Pauio State has started preseries production of two of ZF's latest automated transmissions, TraXon and the EcoTronic. TraXon is ZF's latest modular transmission for heavy-duty trucks and coaches, which replaces the automated heavy-duty transmission, the AS Tronic, while the EcoTronic is for Brazil's medium and semi-heavy trucks and is an automated transmission based on the Ecomid mediumduty manual transmission. (The 12 and 16 speed TraXon was first introduced in 2012 for Euro VI introduction and is to go into series production in Europe for DAF Trucks next year. The 9-speed EcoTronic started series production for European OEMs in 2017). The production facility in Sorocaba represents an investment since 2016 of some BRA100m (USD25m) with the investment project being set to be fully complete later this year. Some BRA33m (USD9m) has been spent on bench test equipment, trial production and training of the workforce in the production processes of the transmissions. The remaining funds have been used to adapt the existing assembly lines to be able to manufacture the new products.
