Broadening the scope of efforts to make the industry more inclusive is considered key to tackling difficulties in attracting new talent. Significant cultural change is needed to boost equality, diversity and inclusion on major transport projects according to one academic. PhD researcher Emily Miles of University College London has been undertaking 'action research' by embedding herself within project teams to understand and seek to address challenges they are facing, particularly around gender balance.
