Trees have value, so if they havebeen or could be damaged or de-M stroyed, the owner may want to know what that value is.The reference that directs tree appraisal is the Guide for Plant Appraisal, commonly referred to as the Guide. The history of tree appraisal dates back well over 100 years, and the first industry guide to tree appraisal, Shade Tree Evaluation, was published 1957. The most recent version of the Guide, the 10th Edition, now in its second printing, was published in 2019 by the Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers (CTLA) in conjunction with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). This publication exists to guide ar-borists and others through the process of appraising trees, shrubs and other landscape plants.
