Digital-image-processing offers the possibility to assess the grain-size distribution of fragmented material, especially when resulting from blasting. Although it provides an indirect measurement, it offers nevertheless the only technically feasible method to access to some grain-size distribution of the whole much-pile issued from a blast, for the direct sieving of the fragmented material is not possible due to magnitude of size-classed and the amount of material to be handled. Such a process operates generally in a fully-automated way. The link between fragmentation information and other production data (as for example blasting parameters, rock-mass geology) requires the use of a database management system
