INDIA: Fatal Accident at TTP's Newly Opened Acid Neutralisation Unit

On 18 May 2017, the Central Pollution Control Board, part of the national Government's Ministry of Environment, Forestry & Climate Change issued a closure order on the 20,000 tp.a. TiO2 pigment plant of Travancore Titanium Products Ltd. (TTP) at Thiruvananthapuram/ Trivandrum in Kerala province, citing the company's failure to operate adequate controls on effluent from the plant. In addition to the closure notice served on TTP, a Government order was issued to the Kerala State Electricity Board to cut power supplies to the plant site.
