In recent decades, many approaches have been successfully established to estimate fracture properties. One of the most widely used approaches for scenarios in which insufficient material is available to perform standard tests is the small punch test (SPT). The SPT basically consists of the deformation of a fully constrained specimen by a high-strength punch. Previous studies have primarily used conventional miniature specimens without precracks. In this study, two different types of miniature specimens were used: a pre-notched specimen type (SPT-N) that was used in a previous study and a novel pre-holed miniature specimen type (SPT-H). The main objective of this paper was to experimentally and numerically analyse the fracture behaviour of these specimens. This study used two common numerical models, the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) model and the contour integral crack (CIC) model, to simulate damage and failure behaviour. The combined numerical and experimental approach enabled the estimation of various fracture properties.
