US herbal supplement sales’ growth in 2018 was the strongest since 1998, up 9.4% to an estimated $8.8bn, states the American Botanical Council’s 2018 Herb Market Report. In mainstream retail outlets, herbal supplements with horehound listed as the primary ingredient, including natural cough drops and lozenges, grossed the highest sales in 2018, while goji berry supplements, many marketed for weight loss, showed the strongest sales growth - a 637% increase from 2017, according to the report published in issue 123 of ABC’s quarterly journal HerbalGram. In the natural channel, sales of products containing the non-intoxicating can- nabis constituent cannabidiol made it the top-selling ingredient in 2018 with the highest growth, 332.8%.
