In the first financial quarter of 2017, U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) grew 1.2 percent, then picked up the pace, growing 3.1 and then 3.2 percent in the second and third quarters, respectively. It's not difficult to see that manufacturing contribut-ed to this growth; the value of shipments of durable goods grew 3.6 per-cent during the second and third quarters.
