The method involves defining criticality time for starting an engine based on desired maximum time (24) for provision of engine torque depending on a function (i) of origin of a start request (20) if the request is emitted, and a drive time (34) necessary for the engine start up. A preparation of low priority providing a low heating power of plugs is required when the criticality time is high in absence of the emitted request. A preparation of top priority providing a strong heating power of the plugs is required when the criticality time is weak in presence of the emitted request. An independent claim is also included for a hybrid vehicle.
