Productivity, performance and attracting the right talent has become the challenge for all industries. The plantation sector, suffering from labels we attach to it, is having a difficult time in competing for talent. Is our Human Resource (HR) Management up to the mark in the 21st century? This article will look in two areas. Firstly, trends in HR Management, in the areas ofdeveloping peoplefor productivity andperformance, leveraging on digital technology and empowering and engaging teams. Secondly,the role of HR and Management and the blurring of lines between the two is also considered. Interspersed in the article will be insights from the oil and gas industry as it pertains to HR Management.
