SECRETS TO BECOMING A WELL-INFORMED RISK BASED INSPECTION (RBI) PROFESSIONAL

Fixed equipment reliability professionals at hydrocarbon facilities around the globe are aware of an industry best practice named Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and the traditional benefits of implementing this best practice. This paper intends to use a top-down approach of describing RBI methodology and how it fits in a facility (plant) management system. The paper presents RBI principles in four sections named as, 1. Introduction to RBI in hydrocarbon facilities, 2. Strategizing inspections (new technology) through the RBI process 3. Guidance on effective implementation of RBI programs 4. Guidance on evaluating a potential RBI technology partner. The main idea of this presentation and paper is to provide a comprehensive picture of RBI methodology in terms of basics, technology trends, implementation guidance and evaluating a potential RBI technology partner.
