RIVER SURVEYS REVEAL mixed fortunes for the near-threatened common clubtail dragonfly, a distinctive black and yellow insect that breeds on very few sites in England and Wales. Citizen science project the 2017 Clubtail Count spotted the dragonfly in Devon for the first time. It found common clubtails thriving on the Severn from Shropshire to Gloucestershire and on the Dee in Cheshire, and breeding on the cross-border River Fyrnwy.
