Like its Westminster counterparts,the Scottish government is consulting the Committee on Climate Change(CCC) on how to meet its 2050 zero-emissions target.Scottish ministers published a draft climate-change strategy last summer,aiming to cut emissions by 90 per cent by 2050 and altogether”as soon as possible".Scottish climate campaigners are pressing Holyrood to set a firm date for net-zero emissions.In September last year,the Scottish government announced it will launch a Just-Transition Commission,to guide it towards a zero-emission economy,while protecting jobs,vulnerable people and communities.Scottish cabinet secretary for environment,climate change and land reform Roseanna Cunningham presented the plan to wide acclaim at COP24 in Katowice,highlighting the opportunities that a low-carbon economy will offer.Holyrood approved the commission in the new year.Ms Cunningham spoke exclusively to The Environment as the commission prepared for its first meeting,to outline its aims.
