WALES COMBATS HEAVY METAL POLLUTION FROM ABANDONED MINES

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is assessing river catchments and abandoned metal mines to combat the pollution that causes more than 6ookm of Welsh rivers to fail Water Framework Directive (WFD) standards. Central orefield pressures impact the rivers Dovey, Clarach, Rheidol, Ystwyth, Teifi, Towy, Upper Severn and Upper Wye. But there are impacts elsewhere, notably at Anglesey's Parys Mountain.
