Geopolymer Bricks Using Mine Waste and Addtives as a Construction Material

摘要

The present study represents the use of optimum level of Iron Ore Tailings (IOT), fly ash and, Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) along with perlite as additive for the preparation of geopolymer bricks. The physical properties such as sieve analysis, specific gravity, bulk density and elemental analysis by Electron Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) and microstructure analysis by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for the materials used for geopolymer bricks were determined. Based on the variation of lOT-perlite ratio in percentage (35:0, 34:1,33:2,32:3) and different curing periods, themechanical properties of geopolymer bricks were investigated by determining Uncon fined Compressive Strength (UCS) and durability property by water absorption test. The concentration of the activator solution used was 10M. The physical, chemical and mechanical properties obtained satisfied the Indian standards (IS codes) for different application of bricks in construction industry.
