Staphylinus caesareus Cederhjelm (Staphylinidae) in Scotland

Staphylinus caesareus Cederhjelm (Fig. 1) is one of our largest and most impressive Staphylinidae, the largest of our species with red elytra. It is also a considerable rarity or, perhaps, is considerably under-recorded? Lott (2011) gives its distribution in the British Isles as 'England: New Forest and Devon', quoting Allen (1978), and commenting that its habitat was 'Uncertain'.
