Barium Appendicitis: An Unusual Complication of Barium Enema

A 52-year-old female patient was admitted with a two-day history of worsening abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and hyperthermia. About one month before admission, the patient experienced left lower quadrant pain which resolved spontaneously. To investigate that episode, barium enema was performed five days before the admission, which revealed sigmoid colon di-verticulosis. Vermiform appendix was filled with barium showing no abnormalities (Fig. 1 a). She presented with pain in right iliac fossa, nausea, and anorexia for past two days. Pointing sign was positive. During the first day from its onset, the pain was dull, (Visual Analog Scale) VAS-3/10.
