As Hurricane Harvey hovered over Houston in late August, Hristo Mintchev, an Idexx regional specialist and Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) allied member, sat cooped up in his house with his wife and i-year-old son for four days listening to the relentless patter of rain. Floodwaters rose, and houses just one mile from his home were underwater. When the rain let up, Mintchev posted on his neighborhood app that he would like to help but didn't have a safe way to leave his home. A neighbor read his post and picked Mintchev up in a truck, and they spent about eight hours on boats rescuing people from houses.
