About 10 years ago, data journalism became the next big thing in my profession. It was great if you were the quiet one at the back of the newsroom with a lot of business reporting to do. You were probably much better at using spreadsheets than other journalists; naturally, this was good. But you probably weren't as 'cool' as the others. You probably wore wider, shinier trousers; your shoes were likely to be less pointed than the others; there may have been an inclination to corduroy.
