International efforts to bring an end to child labour, just one of the many difficult-to-uncover issues that global supply chains can face, have stalled in many key countries, a recent study has suggested. Risk analytics company Verisk Maplecroft suggests that key regions in the world often involved in manufacturing - Asia, India and Africa -have slowed their progress in tackling the issue, despite improvements in education and economic development Venezuela, Nigeria and Cambodia are identified as the worst performing countries and others involved in manufacturing supply chains, including Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Turkey and Vietnam, also feature among those highlighted. Twenty-seven countries, accounting for 12 per cent of the world's population - 900 million people - are identified as "extreme risk".
