Nufarm's Brazilian agrochemical business recorded a significant increase in sales and profits during the first quarter of its fiscal 2013 (August-October 2012). Brazilian soybean growers have been able to capitalise on a higher crop price due to US drought and Brazilian plantings are expected to be higher than last year, notes Nufarm's manager director, Doug Rathbone. Dry weather in southern Brazil has delayed activity in that region. In Argentina, excessive rainfall has hindered planting activity. Nevertheless, demand has been strong and the business is tracking ahead of its performance at the same time last year.
