Raise mat type nursery for mechanical paddy transplanter

Paddy is the main cereal crop of Punjab during kharif season. Around 75.0 lakh acres of area is under paddy cultivation in Punjab. To save declining water table in Punjab, government has fixed June 20 as transplanting date. Therefore, transplanting period decreases and also there is a scarcity of labour during transplanting. Mechanical transplanting is one of the solutions to get rid of the labour shortage problem. This also helps the farmers in timely transplanting and getting higher yield. Also, there is an employment generation of 30-40 days in a year, if we run paddy transplanters on custom hiring basis. To solve the problem of higher cost of machinery, machines should be run on custom hiring or cooperative basis. With this concept, small, marginal and medium farmers will be benefited with the availability of machinery. The payback period of thesepaddy transplanting machines varies from 2-3 years. The mat type nursery is required for mechanical paddy transplanters. The material required for raising mat type nursery comprises nursery roller, iron frames, 50-60 gauge polythene sheet, sprinkler can, manual zindra and small wooden slat piece.
