Cultivation afid seed production of chilli hybrid-27

Chilli is an important vegetable crop grown extensively throughout India. It is valued for its pungency and has multiple uses such as fresh vegetable, chilli paste and red ripe dried fruits as spice. Chilli cultivation in Punjab is hindered by diseases like fruit rot, die-back and leaf curl virus, which cause high economic losses to growers. To overcome these problems, a multiple disease resistant chilli hybrid CH-27 has been recommended by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) for commercial cultivation. This hybrid has become very popular among chilli growers in Punjab as well as other states owing to its advantage in distant transportation and superior shelf life. To enhance its popularity and seed availability among farmers, PAU has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with various seed producers.
