Background. To strengthen distance-learning students' health and well-being, we explored the determinants as well as their needs regarding health promotion services, such as e-mental health interventions and m-health apps for stress management. Methods. We conducted an app- and web-based health survey with 5721 distance-learning and doctoral students at the University of Hagen. Preliminary results from descriptive analyses of the online student health survey were considered in terms of sociodemographic data, stress level, stressors, resources, satisfaction with health behavior, demand and needs for health promotion services as well as willingness to use such services provided by the distance-learning university. Results. The survey confirmed the demand for mental health interventions. Main action fields of interest were stress management and relaxation. Most students (69%) were interested in the future use of app- or web-based health promotion services provided by the University of Hagen Conclusions. Concerning the unique setting of the University of Hagen, a specific digital pilot program will be developed to improve both stress management and mindfulness skills and to reduce procrastination.
