摘要

With a view to understanding the degradation of titanium alloy IMI 834, a systematic study has been carried out at different temperatures. The results revealed that the weight gain is dependent on the exposed temperature and time. It was also observed that the oxide scale and alphacase formation are significantly higher at elevated temperatures. Based on the results obtained, a degradation mechanism has been proposed that leads to the failure of components fabricated from the titanium alloy. It was recommended that suitable oxidation-resistant coatings should be applied to prolong the life of these titanium alloy components.
