An analysis of some spectroscopic characteristics was carried out on humic acids (HAS) isolated from organomineral horizons of soils located in three different geological environments and three different vegetation types in the Southeast of Spain. Humic acids analysed showed a relatively uniform spectroscopic behavior probably due to the similar mediterranean climate acting in a unique way on the mediterranean vegetation well adaptated on different parent materials (calcareous, metamorphic and volcanic). However the mean values of the E-4/E-6 ratio are somewhat lower for HAs isolated from the volcanic area of Cabo de Gata under vegetation of shrub, this result suggests a greater evolution and stability of HAs in these environmental conditions.
